Visa exemption for Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba passport holders

As of July 15, 2024, nationals of 93 countries and territories—including Mexico, Guatemala, and Cuba—no longer require a visa to enter the Kingdom of Thailand for tourism, business meetings, urgent or ad-hoc work lasting up to 60 days. A maximum 30 stay extension can be requested to the Thai Immigration Office. More information can be found in the Visa Exemption section (view Visa Exemption section).

Under this visa exemption scheme, travellers from 93 countries and territories only are requested to present their valid passport (strongly recommended to have validity not less than 6 months) at the Immigration control.

However, for other types/purposes of visit for nationals of Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba, and the other 90 countries and territories who enjoy the visa exemption scheme, will still require a visa.

The holders of ordinary passports from Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Haiti still require a visa to enter Thailand for all purposes of travel.

eVISA – Thailand Electronic Visas

General Information

All types of visa application MUST be submitted and processed through e-Visa system at thaievisa.go.th. Information regarding requirements for each visa category as well as visa fees can be found on the said website.

It is no longer necessary to present the passport or original supporting documents in person at the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico City.

Once the application has been approved, the applicant will receive a confirmation email and the e-Visa in PDF format, which MUST be printed and presented to the airline and Thai immigration authorities.

Information input

• If the applicant has two names (primer nombre and segundo nombre) and two family names (primer apellido and segundo apellido), the names must be filled in the following manner:
• Given name: [primer nombre]
• Middle name: [segundo nombre]
• Family name: [primer apellido segundo apellido]

    Please note that in case of incorrect and/or incomplete personal information submitted to the e-Visa system, the Embassy is unable to modify it. The applicants would need to re-apply with the correct and complete personal information for the visa.   

Processing Time

Once all required documents have been uploaded to the system and are complete and satisfactory, visa issuance may take approximately 5–10 business days.

We recommend submitting the visa application at least one month before the intended date of entry into Thailand.

Visa Validity and Permitted Stay

Issued visas become valid immediately from the date of issuance. The visa validity period refers to the period during which the visa may be used to enter Thailand. Upon entry into the country, the immigration officer will grant the permitted duration of stay. The permitted stay for a tourist visa is generally 60 days per entry. 

Document Indicating Current Location

The Embassy accepts visa applications regardless of the applicant’s nationality or residency status, provided that the applicant is physically present and remains in one of the countries under its jurisdiction throughout the application process, from application submission to visa issuance.

The countries under the Embassy’s jurisdiction are Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cuba, Haiti, and Belize.

The document indicating the applicant’s current location must prove that the applicant is currently staying in one of the aforementioned countries and may consist of:

• For nationals: a copy of the national ID card (INE) or, for minors, a copy of the birth certificate.
• For residents: a copy of the residence card (temporary or permanent) or equivalent.
• In other cases: a copy of the passport with an entry stamp into one of the countries,mmnmnm the corresponding visa or the visa used to enter the country (if applicable), as well as proof of accommodation in that country.

Required Documents

Information regarding the required documents for each visa category is available on the thaievisa.go.th platform.

The Royal Thai Embassy, Mexico City, has additional requirements on the documentation as follows:

• Proof of accommodation in Thailand: A document indicating the place of stay (for example, a hotel reservation, lease agreement, or invitation letter from a resident in Thailand) covering the applicant’s entire planned stay in Thailand.
  Accommodation reservations must be issued directly by the hotel or hostel and clearly indicate the guest's name, including applicant’s name (in case of multiple guests). Confirmations issued solely by a travel agency cannot be accepted.
• Travel booking confirmation: Round-trip flight reservation documents from the country of departure to Thailand, including all transit flights, showing the applicant's name and complete flight details. The itinerary must also include a return or onward flight from Thailand to the country of departure, the applicant’s home country, or the country of residence.
• Financial evidence:
• Normally, a document showing the closing balances for the last three months is required. Each monthly closing balance must meet or exceed the required amount. Applicants are also requested to attach screenshots or annotations showing the currency conversion of the final balances into USD or THB, if the bank statement is expressed in other currencies.
• In cases of sponsorship by a third person or an inviting party, the sponsor’s bank statements meeting the above requirements, a signed sponsorship letter, proof of relationship (such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate), and a copy of the official identification of the sponsor must also be submitted.

• Employment contract or employment certificate in their country or professional portfolio showcasing digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status (for Workation DTV) - The required documents are the following:
• A CV or résumé outlining the applicant's professional background.
• A letter from the applicant explaining their current occupation and the nature of their professional activities.
• Three examples of the applicant's work or completed projects.
• Three proofs of payment received from the applicant's employer, company, or clients.

Notes

• The Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico City accepts visa applications from applicants who are physically present in one of the countries under our jurisdiction (Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cuba, Haiti, and Belize) during the application process and who will travel to Thailand from one of these countries.
• Applicants are strongly advised to verify all personal information before submission, as the information provided cannot be modified either by the applicant or by the Embassy.
• Applicants are responsible for providing all required information, including their full name exactly as it appears in their travel document.
• Incorrect personal information may result in denial of entry into the country.
• If the submitted supporting documents do not meet certain visa application requirements, the Embassy may request additional documents deemed necessary.
• Once all required documents have been completely and satisfactorily submitted to the system, visa issuance may take 5 - 10  business days.
• Visa fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.
• The e-Visa becomes valid on the date of issuance. Travelers are responsible for ensuring that they use their visa before it expires. In general, a single-entry visa is valid for 90 days.
