On 13 February 2025 at 10:30 hrs. H.E. Mr. Rooge Thammongkol, Thai Ambassador to Mexico attended the opening ceremony of the FTI Expo 2025 in Bangkok and took this opportunity to have several meetings with private sector to expand the business network between Thailand and Mexico as follows:
1. Ambassador Rooge together with Mr. Stephan Michel, President of the Mexico – ASEAN Business Committee, COMCE, had a meeting with Mr. Kriangkrai Thiennukul, President of the Federation of Thai Industris (FTI). Both sides agreed to organize a webinar to promote Thai products namely processed food and automobile parts in this coming March.
2. Ambassador Rooge conversed with Thai GS 1 representative and was informed that there would be a meeting between Thai and Mexican GS 1 during the GS1 Global Forum 2025 in the Netherlands in this coming week.
3. Ambassador Rooge visited a booth of Indorama Corp., a Thai company with business in Mexico, and discussed with Mr. Winai Krathinthai, Joint Vice President, on possible impacts from the tariff policy of the Trump’s Administration, as well as arranged a company visit in Mexico in this coming March.
4. Ambassador Rooge hold a meeting with Ms. Chadatip Chutrakul, Chief Executive of Siam Paragon Department Store and President of the Sub-committe of Festival Events, and discussed on how to promote Thai Festival in Mexico and the identity of Phi-Ta-Khon, a Thai unique ghost masquerade, during the procession of Mexican Day of the Dead Parade.
5. Ambassador Rooge also took this opportunity to consult with H.E. Ms. Shirley Dennise Aguilar Barrera, Guatemalan Ambassador to Thailand, and agreed on pushing forward the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a bilateral mechanism for Political Consultation between the two countries, as well as the negotiation on the MoU to promote development cooperation between Thailand and Guatemala.
6. During the mission in Thailand this time, Ambassador Rooge also has scheduled to meet and exchange views with Thai content creators and entertainment companies such as GMM, GDH to promote Thai movies and series during “Thailand Week”, a Thai Festival event in Mexico, and through other channels in order to keep the popular momentum of Thai contents among Mexican and Latin-American audience, which is not only in line with the Thai Soft Power policy of the government but also generates more business and positive effects to Thai economy.
Moreover, Ambassador Rooge would have a meeting with representatives from Chulalongkorn University to discuss on promoting academic cooperation with the National University of Mexico (UNAM) which is a part of several activities to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and Mexico in 2025.
